Dance to Make a Difference

The purpose of the Dance to Make a Difference program is to connect our community and supporters of the performing arts to local chartitable organizations. We volunteer and raise awareness for the partner charity throughout the year. We also produce the Dance to Make a Difference Charity Gala, donating all proceeds to the charity.  Dance companies from Seattle, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Chehalis, and Olympia have contributed new works in past productions.  We seek to share creative new works with the audience and participating companies, but most importantly, we seek to connect our audience, dancers, and business supporters in giving back to our community.

Proceeds from Dance to Make a Difference have benefited organizations such as Red Cross, Hands on Children's Museum, Thurston County Food Bank, Homeless Backpacks and SafePlace.  In advertising for the event via social media, posters, and informational videos, we provide community exposure and highlight the important work of the chosen charity in our community.

This season’s Dance to Make a Difference will be held on Saturday March 10th, 2018 at the Kenneth J Minnaert Center for the Arts, and will benefit Family Support Center of South Sound.  Click on the logo below to learn more about this wonderful organization.

Education and Training

The Studio West Dance Guild is committed to providing training and educational opportunities to the South Sound dance community through our free Master Class Series.  Throughout the year, we invite instructors from around the Puget Sound and visiting instructors from around the nation to teach classes in different dance styles and topics.

Recent classes have included:

  • Ballet master class with Jerome and Laura Tisserand of Pacific Northwest Ballet, Jared Brunson of Ballet Memphis, and Joseph Jefferies of Boston Ballet School. Contemporary master class with Ian Howe.
  • Understanding the Dancer’s Body with Lisa Clarkson of Body Dynamics, Falls Church, Virginia. Pilates and physical therapy. Dancer health and injury prevention with Dr. Neely, Chiropractor.
  • Nutrition master class with Melissa Shafer, LMP, NTP.

We will offer free to the community 5-6 master classes for the 2017-2018 season ranging from ballet, hip-hop, dancer health, and other topics.  To be informed when classes are offered, check our home page for announcements or click the logo/link below to like us on facebook.
